Ruturaj Gaikwad’s amazing post on social media caused a social media frenzy.
Star batter Ruturaj Gaikwad took social media by storm with his spectacular post on social media just hours after he hit the game-winning blow to help India take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series against Zimbabwe. The skipper of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has been in outstanding form throughout the current tour of Zimbabwe. In the second and third Twenty20 Internationals, he scored 77 and 49, respectively. Gaikwad posted a humorous picture to Instagram on Wednesday, after India had taken a 2-1 lead over Zimbabwe in the match. Gaikwad uploaded a photo of his T20I cap with the number 88 etched on it, implying he is “ahead of the trend”. For those who don’t know, Gaikwad is the 88th player to represent India.
Gaikwad associated the number with seven, a figure that cricket enthusiasts associated with CSK and the Indian great MS Dhoni have made famous.
“I am ahead of the trend,” Gaikwad said as the Instagram story caption for the picture.
In the third T20 International, India overcame a valiant effort from Dion Myers to defeat Zimbabwe by 23 runs. Captain Shubman Gill top-scored with a 49-ball 66, while all-rounder Washington Sundar struck a fast 28-ball 49.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Gill opened with a 67-run partnership on a two-paced pitch, but Zimbabwe took advantage of the middle overs to impose a slowdown. India overcame 180 thanks to a 72-run third-wicket stand between Gill and Gaikwad that came off of 44 balls.
Zimbabwe’s response saw them cut to 39/5, but a 77-run sixth-wicket partnership between Myers and Clive Madande kept Zimbabwe in the hunt. Myers continued to score unbeaten at 65 off 49 balls, but Zimbabwe could only muster 159/6 in 20 overs, so his efforts were in vain.
