There is “one condition” that the BCCI needs to meet before MS Dhoni may play for CSK in the IPL.

MS Dhoni’s future with the Chennai Super Kings remains uncertain even months after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season ended. Ruturaj Gaikwad took over as team captain when Mahendra Singh Dhoni resigned from his position prior to the 2019 season. Even though CSK was unable to make it to the playoffs, Ruturaj’s leadership offered several benefits. Does that imply that Dhoni’s career as a player is ended, though? According to reports, the BCCI and IPL management’s decision of the Thala’s retention in the league will be the only factor determining their continued status.

There is a big auction planned prior to the IPL 2025 season, therefore it’s unclear how many players the BCCI would let the franchises keep. Only if the BCCI permits the retention of five or six players in each franchise will Dhoni’s playing career in the league continue, according to a report in Cricbuzz.

Even though the order of retention could be tricky, the Super Kings’ most likely players to be kept are Shivam Dube, Matheesha Pathirana, Ravindra Jadeja, and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Previous reports said that club owners would be attending a meeting on July 31 with IPL executives to resolve the retention issue. The franchise owners were reportedly texted by IPL CEO Hemang Amin to schedule a meeting; however, the location and time of the meeting were not yet confirmed.

“Amin reportedly said that the meeting will take place on July 31 in the late afternoon or evening. All of the owners are reportedly confirmed as being available for the meeting “according to a report.

“While the exact venue has not been confirmed, the congregation is expected to take place at the Cricket Centre, the BCCI headquarters, located within the Wankhede Stadium complex in Mumbai,” it said.

It was also mentioned in the article that the BCCI might permit the retention of five or six players.
