Sangakkara is said to be leaving Rajasthan Royals to coach England’s white-ball squad, and Rahul Dravid may return to the IPL outfit.
According to news sources, Kumar Sangakkara, the Rajasthan Royals’ Director of Cricket, may soon leave his position to take up a new role as England’s white-ball coach. The good news for Indian fans is that this vacancy could present an ideal opportunity for Rahul Dravid to make a comeback with the Rajasthan Royals. Notably, Dravid earlier played for RR in the IPL and managed the team before taking up national duties in 2022.But in a media interview a few days prior, Sangakkara had apparently ruled out the possibility of taking over as England’s white-ball coach, saying he was content with his duties at the Rajasthan Royals. English media reported Sangakkara as stating, “Well, I know my name has been mentioned for some reason, but there hasn’t been any approach as such.” Although I believe that working with England white-ball is a fantastic opportunity, there are a lot of deserving applicants. Right now, I’m really content. Over the past four years, I have really liked my employment and the Rajasthan Royals experience has been quite satisfying.
Since the previous coach, Matthew Mott, resigned from his position, the search for the next English white ball coach had begun. Since then, former English batsman Marcus Trescothick has been appointed by the ECB to an interim role; however, plans are reportedly on to appoint a permanent coach.
For his part, Rahul Dravid will be taking the captain’s seat for the first time after helping India win the T20 World Cup, should the claim prove to be accurate.
