At the main event, 16 sports were competed in by Indian athletes: archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, equestrian, golf, hockey, judo, rowing, sailing, shooting, swimming, wrestling, table tennis, and tennis. With a group of 29 players, athletics had the greatest representation of Indians. India fielded their largest-ever team of 21 shooters in the shooting competition.At the Games, Indian competitors not only set new marks but also secured medals.

- Neeraj Chopra expands on his success from Tokyo 2020
At Paris 2024, Neeraj Chopra threw the javelin the second-best of his career with a distance of 89.45 meters, but Arshad Nadeem beat him for the gold with a new Olympic record of 92.97 meters.
Even yet, taking home a silver medal from the Olympics was no small accomplishment, given that Neeraj had only won two medals for India in the Summer Games’ athletics competition.
Adding a silver medal to his gold from Tokyo 2020, Chopra became the fifth Indian athlete to win two medals at the Olympics. Additional Indian medallists with two Olympics are Norman Pritchard, Sushil Kumar, PV Sindhu, and Manu Bhaker.

India’s medal total in shooting at Paris 2024 increased to three as Swapnil Kusale became victorious in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions on August 1. At no previous Games, India had won three medals in a single sport. The prior record was two in the shooting at the London 2012 Olympics. This was also India’s first-ever Olympic shooting medal in the 50m rifle 3 positions.

The Indian men’s hockey team overcame a goal behind to defeat Spain 2-1 and secure the bronze medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. For the first time in fifty-two years—since Munich 1972—India, who also took home the bronze in hockey at the Olympics, won back-to-back gold in the sport.
India also won a record-tying 13th Olympic hockey medal with the win at the Yves-du-Manoir Stadium.
At Paris 2024, PR Sreejesh made significant saves throughout the competition before ending his international career with a bronze medal, and Harmanpreet Singh led India in goals scored with ten.
For the first time since Munich 1972, India defeated Australia in Olympic hockey.In a group match at the Paris 2024 Olympics, the Indian men’s hockey team defeated Australia, the silver medalists from Tokyo 2020, 3-2, behind captain Harmanpreet Singh’s brace.
This was the first Olympic hockey match that India has won over Australia since Munich 1972. India lost five of the seven games they have since played against each other before winning in Paris. India finished second in their pool as a result of the victory.

Dhiraj Bommadevara and Ankita Bhakat finished fourth in the mixed team event to secure India’s best result in archery at the Olympics.
Bommadevara and Bhakat fell 6-2 to Brady Ellison and Casey Kaufhold of the USA in the bronze medal match, missing an opportunity to record a historic first-place podium finish.
India had lost 6-2 against South Korea in the semi-finals before reaching the bronze medal match. After defeating Indonesia 5-1 in the round of 16, the Indian mixed team defeated Pablo Gonzalez and Elia Canales of Spain 5-3 in the quarterfinals. It was the first time Indian archery had advanced to the Games’ semi-finals in any competition.

In the semifinals, the Indian shuttler was defeated by Denmark’s reigning champion Viktor Axelsen. In the bronze medal match, she was defeated by Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia.
8.Manika Batra becomes the first table tennis player from India to advance to the pre-quarterfinals, and Sreeja Akula does the same.
On July 29, Manika Batra, who was seeded 18th in the women’s singles competition, made history as the first Indian table tennis player to get to the pre-quarterfinals of the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
In the round of 64, she defeated British player Anna Hursey, ranked 103rd in the world, 4-1, to begin her career. She defeated France’s Prithika Pavade in the round of 32 to go on to the pre-quarterfinals.
Manika’s journey came to an end in the pre-quarterfinals as she lost 4-1 to Japanese player Miu Hirano, ranked seventh. Manika Batra advanced to the round of 32 at Tokyo 2020.
Sreeja Akula, who made her Olympic debut on July 30, defeated Christina Kallberg of Sweden 4-0 in the round of 64 and Zeng Jian of Singapore 4-2 in the round of 32 to join Manika in the round of 16. On her 26th birthday, she was defeated in the round of 16 by Chinese silver medallist Sun Yingsha.
