During his Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India wants to host the Olympics in 2036 and that preparations are already underway.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated during his Independence Day speech on Thursday that India hopes to host the Olympics in 2036 and that plans are already in place. PM Modi wished everyone traveling for the next Paralympics well and congratulated all of the competitors who represented India at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. During his speech, Prime Minister Modi stated that India’s next goal is to host the Olympics in 2036, having already demonstrated that the country has the infrastructure to handle a major event like the G20 Summit.”We also have the young people here today who flew the Indian flag high during the Olympics. I extend my felicitations to all our athletes and players on behalf of my 140 crore fellow citizens.A large delegation of Indian athletes will go to Paris to compete in the Paralympics in the coming days. My warmest regards to all of our Paralympians…India has demonstrated its ability to plan large-scale events by successfully organizing the G20 Summit.”We are preparing for India’s dream of hosting the Olympics in 2036,” Prime Minister Modi declared, addressing the country from Red Fort.

A press release from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports stated that earlier in the month, Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, confirmed the development in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.

The IOC selects the hosts for the Summer Games by going through a rigorous host selection procedure. The Future Host Commission (FHC), an IOC entity, is specifically tasked with handling this matter.

India hopes to build on its 19 medals from the Tokyo Paralympics and its record-breaking 111 medal tally from the Para Asian Games.

India has sent 84 competitors, the most ever, to the Paralympics in Paris, which will begin on August 28. Twelve disciplines will be played by the 84 participants, including shooting, table tennis, taekwondo, blind judo, blind canoeing, cycling, powerlifting, rowing, and archery.

Rajnath Singh, the defence minister, and other dignitaries had earlier greeted PM Modi with much affection at the Red Fort’s ramparts. The prime minister was seen sporting a traditional multicolored safa along with blue and white kurta clothing.

With this year’s ceremony, Prime Minister Modi will have addressed the country from the Red Fort on Independence Day for the eleventh time, making him the third prime minister to do so after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi. This year’s Independence Day theme, “Viksit Bharat @ 2047,” aims to focus government efforts on making India a developed nation by that year.
