Gilchrist also endorsed Australia to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy when India visits Australia later in 2024.
Adam Gilchrist, the legendary Australian wicketkeeper batsman, has identified India’s Mahendra Singh Dhoni as one of the three greatest wicketkeeper batsmen. Gilchrist did, however, mention another name before getting to Dhoni. Gilchrist, who is one of cricket’s best wicketkeeper batters, selected the name of fellow Australian legend Rodney Marsh over MS Dhoni. Gilchrist referred to Marsh as his idol and indicated that he was his role model. The 2003 and 2007 World Cup winners praised Dhoni’s coolness and poise, and Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka rounded out their top three.
Rodney Marsh was my idol. That’s who I wanted to be. I like MS Dhoni’s coolness. He did it in his own way, always calm. Kumar Sangakkara, too. Gilchrist told The Times of India, “He was so classy in everything he did, from batting high up the order to his keeping skills.”
From 1970 until 1984, Marsh played 96 Tests for Australia.
Gilchrist believes Australia will reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy when India tours Australia later in 2024. India has won the last two Test series in Australia and will look to complete an unparalleled hattrick.While Gilchrist supported his own country, he admitted that it would be a close call that would most certainly go down to the wire. India has won the last four Border-Gavaskar Trophies by a combined score of 2-1.
“The onus is on Australia to demonstrate its dominance at home. Gilchrist told The Times of India that India knows how to travel abroad and win.
India has now won two series in a row in Australia, despite never having beaten them in the country. Gilchrist stated that this time, it is too close to call.”Australia, of course, is my first choice; I hope they make it there. However, it’s too near to say. It’s going to be a tight race, Gilchrist predicted.
