The forthcoming two-match Test series between Team India and Bangladesh is scheduled to begin in Chennai on September 19. Following a more than month-long break, the T20 World Cup 2024 winners will return to action in a white-ball series against Sri Lanka. This will also be India’s return to the longest format after a six-month break, having played five Test matches against England earlier this year. However, India suffered a serious setback before to the eagerly awaited Test series when batsman Suryakumar Yadav sustained a hand injury.

The prolific T20I hitter, who has only played one Test match in his career, was considering an Indian comeback to the longest format. He was selected for the next Duleep Trophy, which will start on September 5, and he was participating in the Mumbai team’s Buchi Babu event.

Surya’s plans did not, however, as he ended up hurting his hand during a Buchi Babu tournament match versus Tamil Nadu. Surya sustained the injury in Coimbatore while fielding against Tamil Nadu, per an news report.

It was also mentioned that Surya’s involvement in the Duleep Trophy is still unclear. Furthermore, it’s unknown if he’ll play in the Test matches against Bangladesh.
Surya had previously stated that he wanted to secure a spot in the Indian Test team. In February 2023, he played his first Test match against Australia.

“A lot of people have put forth a lot of effort to earn their position, and I myself want to do the same. I played my first Test match for India. I also sustained an injury after that. Many others were given the chance and went on to succeed as well. They currently deserve that chance,” Suryakumar stated, according to an ICC quote.
