India defeats South Korea, to face China in the final.
The Indian men’s hockey team advanced to the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 finals on Monday in Moqi, China, after defeating South Korea 4-1. In a 4-3 victory in the 2013 Asia Cup, Korea last defeated India 11 years prior. In the summit match on Tuesday, China—which triumphed over Pakistan in the other semifinal—will take against the reigning champion, India.
Thanks to goals from Uttam Singh and captain Harmanpreet Singh, the Indians held a comfortable 2-0 lead over their Korean opponents at the break.Jarmanpreet Singh scored after collecting a feed from Sumit and putting the ball past the Korean goalkeeper.
South Korea responded with a consolation goal in the third quarter as Yang Jihun converted a penalty corner.
After Harmanpreet completed his brace from a penalty corner, the Men in Blue extended their lead over their opponents.
India is the only unbeaten team in the competition. The incumbent Asian Games gold medalist easily advanced to the semifinals after defeating China 3-0, Japan 5-1, Malaysia 8-1, Korea 3-1, and Pakistan 2-1.
