Virat Kohli is the top run-scorer in IPL history, with 8004 runs from 252 games.

On Sunday, India’s Board of Control for Cricket revealed the IPL auction guidelines. Each franchise can keep up to six players using the Right To Match (RTM) option. As clubs begin to finalize their selections for the IPL 2025 auction, former India bowler RP Singh has delivered a stunning assessment on franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He stated that the team will retain only Virat Kohli and discharge everyone else, relying on the RTM. Notably, Kohli has been playing for RCB since the first season of the IPL.

Kohli has amassed 8004 runs from 252 games, making him the best run scorer in IPL history. He has amassed the most centuries—eight—and half-centuries—55—of any participant in the competition.

“I don’t think they’re having any issues. “They will simply keep Virat Kohli, let go of everyone else, and utilize the RTM,” RP Singh stated in a Colors Cineplex conversation.

The IPL team can select any combination of the six retentions—including RTM—that are permitted. However, as stated by BCCI in its announcement, the six retentions/RTMs can contain a maximum of two uncapped players and five capped players (both Indian and foreign).”If we use Rajat Patidar as an example to assess value, will he fetch more or less than 11 crores at auction? I think Rajat Patidar will be yours for less money. That’s why you win him back at auction. You have the RTM that you can utilize there even if he gets near to 11 crores,” he stated.

“Siraj, you’ll need to assess once more whether you can bring him close to 11 crores based on his performance. Siraj won’t likely make almost 14 crores, in my opinion. They will always have the choice to use the RTM if he gets there,” he continued.
