A notice of probable cause was delivered to Fakhar, along with an inquiry as to why he should not face disciplinary action.

Opening batsman Fakhar Zaman of Pakistan is probably going to get away with a warning for his criticism of the PCB before the squad was announced, when it was announced that former captain Babar Azam would be benched for two Test matches against England. After expressing his dissatisfaction on social media, Fakhar ultimately dropped Azam and a few other prominent players for two Test days. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sent Fakhar a show-cause notice after he tweeted his opinions and contrasted Azam’s run drought with that of India’s Virat Kohli, who experienced a slump between 2020 and late 2022.

“The ideas regarding Babar Azam’s dismissal are alarming. During Virat Kohli’s difficult period from 2020 to 2023, when he averaged 19.33, 28.21, and 26.50, respectively, India did not bench him, Fakhar wrote on ‘X’.

The team might receive a very bad message if we consider benching our top batsman, who is perhaps the best Pakistan has ever produced. There’s still time to stop ourselves from going into panic mode and start protecting our important players instead of weakening them.” Three Test matches between England and Pakistan are being played, with the hosts tying the series in the second Test after Ben Stokes’ team won the first one in Multan. In the end, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Babar were dropped.

Fakhar received a show-cause notice and was asked to explain why he should not face disciplinary action for blatantly violating a provision of his central contract by criticizing the PCB and its hiring practises.

According to a board source, Fakhar responded before the October 21 deadline, stating that he had just spoken up in support of a colleague and comrade and that he had no plans to question the PCB’s authority.
