Bengal will play Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group C match, marking Mohammed Shami’s return to competitive cricket.

Pacer Mohammed Shami will make his competitive cricket return for Bengal against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group C match in Indore beginning on Wednesday, which would be a huge boost for India ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy match against Australia later this month. Bengal’s pace attack against Madhya Pradesh will be led by Shami. With eight points from four games, Bengal is now in fifth place in the standings. They won three important points in their most recent match against Karnataka. The injury that kept the senior pacer out of action for over a year has completely healed. Last November, he played in the ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad for India.

After missing the match against Karnataka, IANS earlier reported that Shami has returned to competitive cricket against Madhya Pradesh.

At the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Shami, who has taken 229 wickets in 64 Test matches, bowled in the Indian team nets to Shubman Gill and a padded-up assistant coach Abhishek Nayar following their eight-wicket defeat to New Zealand in the Test series opener on October 20.Shami indicated at a promotional event last month that he was completely pain-free and that he would be quite interested in playing a few local games. Whether Shami will be available for the Indian team during the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Brisbane, which begins on December 14, will be an interesting question. The BCCI did not include him in the five-Test squad, though, last month.Despite missing India’s opening games in the ODI World Cup 2023, Shami took 24 wickets at an average of 10.70 to top the competition in wicket-taking. In order to address his right achilles tendon issue, he underwent successful surgery on February 26 in London this year. Since then, he has been undergoing a rehabilitation and recovery program at the NCA, and he has recently begun to gradually resume bowling.
