Mohammed Shami has returned to competitive cricket following a protracted injury, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is still closely monitoring his fitness. Before he healed and was able to play for Bengal in a Ranji Trophy match, the right-arm pacer was not selected for India’s current tour of Australia. Shami is still playing for the state team, currently participating in the domestic T20 competition known as the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
The BCCI wants Shami to play in India’s current five-match Test series against Australia, but his fitness is a major concern. According to Cricbuzz, a crew from the BCCI Sports Science department and a national selector are currently camping in Rajkot to keep close tabs on the fast bowler. According to the report, the BCCI will only consider adding Shami in India’s Test team after receiving clearance from the Sports Science Department.
On the field, Shami set up Bengal’s easy victory against Meghalaya with a brief spell in their Group A match in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy in Rajkot on Sunday.
