Jason Gillespie, a former cricket player for Australia, resigned as Pakistan’s Test team’s coach. Days before the crucial two-match Test series against South Africa, Gillespie resigned as post-manager. Aaqib Javed was appointed as the Pakistan men’s cricket team’s temporary red-ball head coach by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Gillespie reportedly did not like that he was not informed or even consulted before the PCB made that choice. Additionally, Nielsen told news sources that he was delighted to stay on and was available for Pakistan’s next series, but that the PCB management had notified him that his skills were no longer needed.

For those who are unaware, ESPNcricinfo stated months ago that PCB intended to hire Aaqib Javed as their all-format coach. Gillespie will remain the red-ball coach, the PCB said after publicly denouncing the report.

As part of the current all-format tour, Aqib’s first task as red-ball head coach will be the forthcoming two-match Test series against South Africa. The first Test will take place from December 26–30 at Centurion’s SuperSport Park. Cape Town’s Newlands Cricket Ground will host the second Test match from January 3–7.

The Pakistan men’s team is presently playing in a three-match Twenty20 International series in South Africa. This will be followed by a three-match One-Day International series.

Gary Kirsten had earlier resigned as the white-ball coach for Pakistan. After that, Jason Gillespie was entrusted to spearhead the white-ball series in Australia. However, Aaqib Javed was appointed by PCB as the white-ball coach until the 2025 Champions Trophy following the series against Australia. Additionally, the former pacer for Pakistan will now serve as Pakistan’s temporary red-ball coach.
