Batsman Fakhar Zaman of the Pakistan cricket team talked candidly about the negative reaction he received to his contentious social media post featuring Virat Kohli and Babbar Azam. Following the dismissal of the former Pakistan captain during the home Test series against England, Fakhar stood behind Babar and even mentioned Kohli in a social media post. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), however, was not happy with the response and removed Fakhar from the list of central contracts. Fakhar clarified in an interview with PAK TV that he was only voicing his personal viewpoint and that he was not criticizing PCB.”I felt that I shouldn’t have tweeted after giving it some thought. But some misunderstood the tweet entirely. They believed I was being critical of the board’s decision, but this is completely untrue. The timing of the tweet indicates that it was sent out prior to the board’s decision. For two to three days, I noticed that he (Babar Azam) was being criticized by reporters and retired athletes. Fakhar stated in the interview, “I thought, ‘Babar has done so much for the team, and they still wanted him to be dropped.'”
After seeing it, I expressed my thoughts via Twitter. I am aware, however, that the board is bigger than everyone. No matter how big you get, you are not above the board, and you shouldn’t be criticizing them when you are playing, I will even tell my younger cricket players. To clarify, however, I tweeted prior to the team’s announcement,” he continued. However, PCB head Mohsin Naqvi clarified that the social media post was not the only reason Fakhar was removed from the central contracts list. Fakhar’s recent performances have fallen short of expectations, he noted, and he even mentioned that one of the primary factors in the decision was his level of fitness.
“Tweet was one issue, but the bigger matter was that of fitness. There is a show-cause notice pending against him, and we will see about that. He would need to prove his fitness, his point of view was valued in the Connection Camp and I am very thankful to him for that but you cannot go around commenting on the selection committee over selection calls. But ya, the bigger issue is of selection,”In the press conference, Mohsin Naqvi stated that new contracts would be announced.
