Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who served twice between 2004 and 2014, passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Thursday after becoming unconscious at home due to age-related illnesses.

In remembrance of former prime minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away in New Delhi, the Indian men’s and women’s cricket teams wore black armbands during their respective games on Friday. In contrast, the women’s team will play the West Indies in the third and final ODI in Vadodara.

“The Indian team is wearing black arm bands as a mark of respect in the memory of former PM Dr Manmohan Singh, who passed away,” according to a statement released by the BCCI.Singh, a distinguished economist as well, was the architect and creator of the 1991 economic reforms that saved India from bankruptcy and marked the beginning of an era of economic liberalization that is generally accepted to have altered the country’s economic direction.
