According to Shreyas Iyer, Prithvi Shaw is “God-gifted,” but he has also received another warning about his work ethic.
Prithvi Shaw’s career has taken a turn for the worse in recent years; she is no longer a member of the senior India squad and is no longer popular with Mumbai at the domestic level. The 25-year-old Shaw was recently dismissed from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy squads, and Mumbai’s T20 skipper Shreyas Iyer criticized him for his work ethic. Iyer, who will captain the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 2025 Indian Premier League, has now emphasized his faith in Prithvi Shaw’s skills while also cautioning about his work ethic.
In an interview with the Indian Express, Iyer gave Shaw some straightforward guidance.
“Prithvi Shaw had a strong start as well. His ability to score runs quickly and with excellent timing is a huge blessing. He is gifted with that extraordinary talent, in our opinion as a squad. Iyer stated, “He just needs to concentrate on his work ethic, and everything else will fall into place.”
“He is God-gifted,” Iyer continued, demonstrating Shaw’s continued high regard in Indian cricket.In spite of being a member of Mumbai’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy-winning XI, Shaw was pulled out of their Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024–25 squad due to his troubles, which were caused by indiscipline that teammates and coaches noted.
At the big auction, the 25-year-old failed to find an IPL team and went unsold even after decreasing his base price to Rs 75 lakh.
“Tell me God, what more do I have to see..if 65 innings, 3399 runs at an average of 55.7 with a strike rate of 126, I’m not good enough…but I will keep my faith in you and hopefully people believe in me still,” Shaw wrote on his Instagram account following his dismissal.Iyer, meantime, was announced as the captain of the Punjab Kings on the reality show Bigg Boss and was chosen by India to compete in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
