It is unclear who would make room for Virat Kohli to return to the playing XI now that he is well.
India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak downplayed worries about captain Rohit Sharma’s protracted lean patch and stated on Saturday that star batsman Virat Kohli is “good to go” in the second ODI against England. A painful right knee had kept Kohli out of the opening ODI. India had taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series after winning the series opener in Nagpur, when the home team took four wickets. “Virat Kohli can play.” During the pre-game media conference, Kotak stated, “He has come for practice and is ready to go.”
Regarding who Kohli will replace in the starting lineup, Kotak expressed uncertainty.
With Rohit and Yashasvi Jaiswal falling early, India’s pursuit of 249 in the opening ODI got off to a rough start, with the squad struggling at 19/2.
But Shreyas Iyer’s aggressive 36-ball 59 changed the tide and kept India on track. Following Kohli’s injury, Iyer disclosed after the game that his inclusion in the starting lineup was a last-minute choice.
Now that Kohli is well, it is unclear who will make room for him to return.
Regarding the selection of the team, Kotak acknowledged that he had no influence.”The captain and head coach should make that decision. “Yes, the left-right combination plays a significant role, but I’m not qualified to respond to that question,” he added.
