According to the ICC men’s ODI player rankings, Shubman Gill and India captain Rohit Sharma are vying for the top slot.

India captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are vying for the top slot in the ICC men’s ODI player rankings with one week remaining until the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, was still ranked first in the most recent rankings update, but the Indian pair is catching up after strong performances in the ODI series against England. After back-to-back half-centuries against England, Gill moved up one spot to second in the most recent ODI batter rankings, barely five rating points behind Babar. Meanwhile, Rohit, in third position, is within 13 rating points of the Pakistani right-hander after his incredible century in Cuttack. As teams get ready for the major ICC event, a number of other well-known batters have returned to the ODI rankings. Fakhar Zaman of Pakistan is currently placed 13th, while Kane Williamson of New Zealand (29th), Jos Buttler of England (38th), Devon Conway (40th), and Joe Root (51st) have all returned to the rankings following their 50-over comeback.

With only 18 rating points separating Rashid Khan, Maheesh Theekshana, Bernard Scholtz, Shaheen Afridi, and Kuldeep Yadav within the top five ODI bowlers, the competition among bowlers is as intense. In the meantime, after impressive performances in the England series, Indian all-rounders Mohammed Shami (13th) and Ravindra Jadeja (11th) have moved up the rankings.

With New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner (up two spots to sixth) among the biggest movers this week, Afghanistan veteran Mohammad Nabi continues to hold a slim lead at the top of the ODI rankings for all-rounders.

Following Ireland’s triumph over Zimbabwe in Bulawayo and Australia’s Test series victory over Sri Lanka in Galle, there has also been a lot of movement in the most recent Test rankings. After a successful series against Sri Lanka, Australia’s opener Usman Khawaja has returned to the top 10 Test hitters, rising two spots to ninth. Following his century in the second Test, wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey has made one of the largest leaps, moving up 11 spots to 18th place.

Due to their contributions to their historic Test triumph over Zimbabwe, Ireland’s Lorcan Tucker (up five places to 49th) and Andy McBrine (up 17 places to 70th) have been rewarded, while Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis has jumped 14 spots to 28th.Following the Bulawayo match, Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani (up 14 spots to 29th) is the greatest mover among the bowlers, while Australia spinner Nathan Lyon sets a new career-high rating and moves up one spot to fifth on the most recent rankings for Test bowlers.
