The ICC penalized Afridi 25% of his match fee for purposefully blocking batter Matthew Breetzke’s run in the 28th over.

Three Pakistani cricket players, including fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, were fined for violating the ICC code of conduct during the historic run chase against South Africa in Karachi. After intentionally blocking batter Matthew Breetzke from hitting a single in the 28th over, Afridi was fined 25% of his match fee by the ICC. This led to physical contact and a heated argument between the two players during Wednesday’s tri-nations encounter.

After South Africa captain Temba Bavuma was run out in the 29th over, Saud Shakeel and substitute fielder Kamran Ghulam celebrated too close to him, earning them a 10% match fee fine. All three players also accepted the sanctions and were given one demerit point each on their disciplinary records, according to the ICC.

In the Champions Trophy warm-up match against New Zealand on Friday, Pakistan achieved its highest-ever successful one-day international run chase of 355-4.
