During the India vs. Pakistan Champions Trophy 2025 match, Mohammed Shami broke Jasprit Bumrah’s record.

In the Champions Trophy match between bitter rivals India and Pakistan, the Rohit Sharma-led team got off to a shaky start as pacer Mohammed Shami delivered five wides in the first over, setting an unwanted record. In the Champions Trophy, Shami bowled the longest over by an Indian, taking 11 balls to finish his six-ball over, which was longer than Jasprit Bumrah’s nine-ball over. Bumrah’s nine-ball over coincidentally occurred against Pakistan in the 2017 Champions Trophy final at the Oval, which India lost by 180 runs, preventing them from winning their second tournament championship.Shami has the most wides of any bowler in the Champions Trophy first over with five. Tinashe Panyangara of Zimbabwe, however, is the player with the most wides (seven) in an over throughout the competition.

The team physio was on the ground during the Indian pacer’s third over because he wasn’t feeling well. He then left the field for a little while before coming back.

Prior to Hardik Pandya’s costly dismissal of Babar Azam in the ninth over, India’s top pacers Shami and Harshit Rana had both gone wicketless in their opening spells. Babar left after using five fours to score 23 runs off 23.Shubman Gill’s undefeated 101 helped India win by six wickets in their tournament opener against Bangladesh, and Shami came back with scores of 5-53.

Mohammad Rizwan, the captain of Pakistan, had previously won the toss and chosen to bat first. After losing to New Zealand by 60 runs in the tournament’s opening match in Karachi, Pakistan needs to win this match to maintain their aspirations of making it to the semi-finals from Group A.
