India advanced to the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy 2025 after New Zealand defeated Bangladesh handily in Rawalpindi on Monday.
Ravindra, who suffered a concussion and missed the Black Caps’ first victory over Pakistan, hit 112 off 105 balls to lead his team to their modest goal of 237 with 3.5 overs remaining.
With opener Will Young bowled by Taskin Ahmed in the opening over and Kane Williamson out for five during a flurry of action from Bangladesh’s seamers, the chase got off to a tense start. However, Ravindra and Devon Conway (30) remained composed with a third-wicket partnership of 57.
After a 129-run partnership with wicketkeeper Tom Latham, who hit a vital 55, Ravindra fell with just 36 runs needed. This victory eliminated their opponents and hosts Pakistan and guaranteed India’s place in Group A.Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto’s 77 and Jaker Ali’s 45 were the only noteworthy contributions from Bangladesh’s inefficient batting effort, which saw eight of the nine wickets go caught in the outfield due to loose and unimpressive shot selection.
Spinner Michael Bracewell ripped through the middle order with career-best ODI figures of 4-26, but they were unable to bounce back from a fall from 97-2 to 118-5 after reaching a solid 58-1 from the first 10 overs.
