Saweety Boora has filed a formal complaint against her husband, Deepak Hooda, a bronze medallist in kabaddi, alleging that he and his family abused her in exchange for a dowry.

Saweety Boora, a former world boxing champion and Arjuna awardee, has filed a formal complaint against her husband, Deepak Hooda, an Asiad bronze medallist in kabaddi, alleging that he and his family abused her in exchange for a dowry. In 2022, the couple tied the knot. In Hisar, Haryana, Boora has filed a formal complaint against Hooda, another recipient of the Arjuna award. “An FIR dated February 25 has been lodged based on the complaint given by Saweety Boora against her husband Deepak Hooda,” Seema, the SHO of the women’s police station in Hisar, announced on Thursday. In response to the question of whether Hooda had been requested to provide his side, the SHO stated, “We gave him notice 2-3 times, but he did not turn up.” In response to PTI’s inquiry, Hooda justified his absence by saying that his health had “taken a beating due to the trauma.” “A medical certificate has been presented, and a later date has been requested. I will definitely visit the police station, but I will refrain from criticizing my wife. He said, “I haven’t been permitted to meet her.”

When contacted, Boora declined to comment on the situation.

When questioned about the accusations she made against Hooda, the SHO of the women’s police station stated that attacks and torture “for more dowry” were among the complaints.

In reference to Boora’s claims, the SHO stated, “A demand for a luxury car was made and met, but her husband beats her, also raises monetary demand.”

A case has been filed under Section 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with cruelty committed against a woman by her spouse or a family member. Hooda was the BJP’s nominee for the Meham seat in the Rohtak district and had run unsuccessfully in the 2024 Haryana assembly elections.

He competed for the Indian kabaddi squad, which took home the gold in the 2016 South Asian Games and the bronze at the 2014 Asian Games. Additionally, he participated in the Pro Kabaddi League.
