On Monday, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia criticized Shama Mohamed for doubting India skipper Rohit Sharma’s captaincy abilities and fitness level.

On Monday, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia slammed Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed for questioning India captain Rohit Sharma’s captaincy credentials and fitness levels, saying it was very unfortunate for a responsible person to make such a trivial comment in the middle of the national team’s Champions Trophy campaign. India has advanced to the semifinals of the ICC event and will face Australia on Tuesday in Dubai. They defeated New Zealand on Sunday to take first place in their group. “It is quite sad for a responsible person to make such a petty comment while the team is in the thick of such an important ICC event. It may have a demoralizing effect on an individual or team,” Saikia told PTI.

“All of the players are performing to their full potential, and the results are obvious. I hope individuals will refrain from making such disparaging remarks for selfish gain at the expense of national interest,” he added.

Shama created a sensation on social media with a scathing post addressed at the Indian skipper.

Congress requested that Shama erase the post from her ‘X’ account, acknowledging that her sentiments were inappropriate.

Shama said in her now-deleted post that “Rohit Sharma is fat for a sportsman!” I need to drop some weight! Of course, India has never had a more unimpressive Captain.Dilip Doshi, a former India spinner, was upset by the insults made about Rohit.

“People are allowed to have their opinions, but to voice them, and to air them, would be even worse, so let people keep their opinions with themselves,” Doshi tells PTI Videos.

“Rohit does not have the classical, athletic, young, modern appearance of a cricketer, but he plays with enormous talent and is very fit for what he does.” Is Rohit cricketing fit? “Yes, he is,” remarked Doshi, who played 33 Tests and 15 ODIs between 1979 and 1983.”Many cricketers appear to be gym fit, but they are not cricket fit. So, for me, a cricketer must be primarily cricket fit, not necessarily gym fit. Gym fitness is causing a lot of injuries that weren’t there before,” he remarked.
