Yuzvendra Chahal, an Indian leg-spinner, will be back in Northamptonshire for the 2025 County Championship cricket season.

In 2025, Yuzvendra Chahal, a leg-spinner for India, will play cricket in Northamptonshire again. Chahal’s contract for this season will extend from June to the conclusion of the season once his IPL 2025 duties with Punjab Kings are over. Chahal played for the team in 2024. The club’s County Championship and One-Day Cup games will feature Chahal, beginning with Northamptonshire’s June 22 matchup with Middlesex. Against Derbyshire in the County Championship last season, Chahal posted career-best figures of 9-99 and claimed five wickets in his debut against Kent in the One Day Cup.

Northamptonshire won back-to-back matches thanks to Chahal’s exploits in the County Championship against Derbyshire and Leicestershire. He concluded the season with 19 wickets at an average of 21 from just four first-class games.

I’m excited to return because I had a great time here the previous season. I’m excited to be a part of that dressing room again since it has some amazing people. We had some fantastic cricket towards the end of the season, so hopefully we can duplicate that and win more huge games,” Chahal said in a statement.Despite being a part of the squad that won the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, Chahal hasn’t played for India since 2023. Northamptonshire’s new head coach, Darren Lehmann, was thrilled at the chance to have Chahal rejoin the team.

“The fact that one of the world’s top leg spinners will be visiting Northamptonshire again this season excites me much. He is a true gentleman who is passionate about the game and contributes essential experience. For us, having him accessible from the middle of June to the conclusion of the season will be great.Ray Payne, the CEO of Northamptonshire, shared Lehmann’s opinions. “Yuzvendra was outstanding for us the previous season and was instrumental in those consecutive wins in September. We are all thrilled to have him return for a longer period of time this season because it was a pleasure to have him around last season. He is a fantastic person and a world-class operator.
