New Zealand easily defeated Pakistan by five wickets in a rain-shortened second Twenty20 cricket international on Tuesday, thanks to Tim Seifert’s 45 off 22 balls and Finn Allen’s 38 off 16. Pakistan reached 135-9 thanks to a 46-run effort from captain Salman Ali Agha in a match that was cut short to 15 overs per innings due to a wet outfield.Shaheen Shan Afridi then threw a maiden to begin New Zealand’s innings. However, Seifert and Allen blasted seven of the next 12 balls for sixes, helping New Zealand win the match and take a 2-0 series lead with 11 balls remaining.
Seifert and Allen both hammered five sixes as New Zealand raced toward its goal. After a scoreless first over, Allen crossed the boundary on the first, third, and sixth balls of the second over, then Seifert struck sixes on the first two and last two deliveries of the next over, propelling New Zealand to 44-0.New Zealand started their innings requiring 136 runs from 90 balls. By the completion of the five-over power play, the target had been cut to 70 runs from 60 balls. In the seventh over, Allen followed Seifert to the pavilion, leaving New Zealand on 87-2.
“There’s not too much conversation out there to be fair,” Seifert said. “It’s just about backing our skills and putting pressure on the bowlers when we can.”
