Days after suffering a catastrophic heart attack during a local tournament, former Bangladeshi cricket captain Tamim Iqbal made his way back home on Friday. When he was taken to a neighboring hospital on Monday due to acute chest pain, the 36-year-old was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club in a 50-over Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match. The same day, he underwent stenting operation, and he was then transferred to a larger medical institution in the capital, Dhaka. “After assessing his health, we have made the decision to release him today,” Shahabuddin Talukder, an Evercare Hospital physician, informed reporters.Tamim will need to continue a rehabilitation program and change his way of life, he noted.

“We hope he will be able to return to cricket soon,” he said.

It was unclear whether Tamim would be allowed to resume playing cricket, Bangladesh’s health ministry’s Abu Zafar told reporters on Wednesday.”For the next three months, Tamim won’t be able to participate in sports. He will be allowed to return if all goes according to plan,” he stated.

Regretfully, he smokes, which increases the risk of heart attacks. He needs to avoid that. He’ll have to do as the doctors say.

Tamim is still the only Bangladeshi player to achieve hundreds in every format of international cricket, having amassed over 15,000 runs for his country over the course of a 15-year career.
