Will Pucovski, a former Australia Test opener, has announced his immediate retirement from all cricket competitions owing to a concussion. On the advice of a group of experts, Pucovski was compelled to leave professional cricket. The batter suffered a number of head injuries during his career as a result of being struck on the head. The most recent concussion occurred in March 2024. A delivery struck Pucovski’s helmet during a Sheffield Shield match, forcing him to retire injured. He canceled his contract with Leicestershire for the English summer of 2024 as a result of it, and he missed the rest of the Australian summer, according to ICC.

On Tuesday morning, the 27-year-old made the announcement exclusively on SEN’s Whateley.

“I wish I were entering in a better situation. I will no longer be playing cricket. To put it simply, this year has been quite challenging. “The message is straightforward: I will no longer be playing at any level,” Pucovski stated on SEN Whateley.

From a personal perspective, I believed that things were beginning to make sense for me after that century in Sydney (in my second-to-last game). In order to do well on the field, I worked extremely hard to get everything perfect off it,” he continued.

The 27-year-old was advised to retire by a medical panel last year.

During his impressive tenure for his state, which included a best score of 255 not out against South Australia in 2020, he made 36 appearances at the First Class level, amassing seven tons and nine fifties.

He scored 62 and 10 in his lone Test match against India in Sydney during the 2020–21 campaign.

As head coach of Premier Cricket team Melbourne, where he made his First XI debut as a teenager in the 2014–15 summer, Pucovski stated that he will continue to play cricket.”There is no doubt that I have a strong enthusiasm for it. It’s incredibly exciting that I will be coaching the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) next year. Playing for the MCC or at higher levels has always made me feel loved and supported, and it has always felt like a second home.

“I’ve spent my entire life there, starting with their junior academy when I was eleven or twelve. My desire to fulfill my passion has always been to become a coach. I can’t wait to try that and see where it leads,” Pucovski remarked.
