Mohit Sharma, the Delhi Capitals bowler, recently revealed the nickname given to him by Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni. The 36-year-old bowler started his IPL career with CSK in 2013 and stayed with the organization for three years until leaving in 2016. Mohit appeared in 47 matches for CSK, taking 57 wickets. During his stay with the five-time champions, he made his India ODI debut against Zimbabwe in 2013.Mohit, who is presently playing for the Delhi Capitals in the 2018 IPL, recently spoke about his relationship with Dhoni and CSK. He revealed that MS Dhoni had given him the nickname Maria Sharapova due to his tendency of grunting.
Tennis legend Sharapova, who won five women’s singles Grand Slam titles between 2006 and 2014, was well-known for her loud grunts when competing.
When asked about the term, the pacer responded that while grunting is beyond his control, it always has an influence on the batter.”Mahi bhai gave me the nickname Maria Sharapova.” He once said, ‘You grunt as loud as some of the tennis players.’ I’d say, ‘With the grunt, batsmen will feel the ball will come at 145-150kph even though it comes slower, therefore it is a positive factor for me,'” Mohit told news sources
Earlier, Mohit claimed that the return of saliva to shine the ball, as well as the option of changing the ball in the second innings, have brought much-needed relief to bowlers in this year’s IPL.”Yes, it (the ball alteration) is completely beneficial. We saw it in the last game. The ball began to get wet after 12 overs in the first innings, and there was significant dew in the second innings when Karn bowled the 13th or 14th over, and the ball spun,” Mohit explained.
“So that hard ball does make a tiny difference. However, by the 15th or 16th over, the ball’s condition has stabilized,” he explained.
