One of the most promising players in world cricket is Dewald Brevis, a 21-year-old who is frequently referred to as “Baby AB” due to his striking resemblance to AB de Villiers in both appearance and style of play.

After medium pacer Gurjapneet Singh was out for the season due to an injury, the five-time champion Chennai Super Kings announced on Friday that they had added South Africa all-rounder Dewald Brevis to their roster.

Chennai paid Rs 2.2 crore to sign Brevis, despite the fact that his base price in the mega auction was only Rs 75 lakh.Although it would be ideal to simply replace Indian players with their countrymen, Chennai was able to sign Brevis because they had an overseas spot available during the IPL 2025 big auction.

One of the most promising players in international cricket, the 21-year-old Protean is frequently referred to as “Baby AB” due to his striking resemblance to AB de Villiers in both appearance and style of play.

Although Brevis has only scored five runs in two Twenty20 Internationals for South Africa, his skill level has always been regarded as exceptional.

Brevis is the second-highest run scorer with 573 runs from 12 innings at an average of 47.75. His most recent participation was with the Titans in the CSA 4-Day Series Division 1 event earlier this month. With goals in both List A and first-class games for his home team Titans, Brevis will enter the Indian Premier League in strong form.

Brevis still plays for the Mumbai Indians in Major League Cricket and SA20, having already played ten games for them in the Indian Premier League.Brevis has previously participated in 81 Twenty20 matches and has a 144.93 strike rate. Earlier this year, he was also playing well in the SA20. With 291 runs at an average of 48.5 and a strike rate of 184.17 in 10 games, he was the sixth-highest run scorer in the competition.
