In the 2025 Indian Premier League, Shubman Gill made his former franchise pay when Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 39 runs. GT scored a respectable 198/3 in 20 overs thanks to a spectacular 90-run performance from captain Gill off just 55 balls. The batting group for the defending champions was ineffective, with the exception of KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane. The GT bowlers increased their lead at the top of the IPL 2025 points table by taking at least one wicket each. However, now sitting in seventh place, KKR is four points outside of the playoff spots.
