Former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly reacted negatively to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam

India hasn’t visited Pakistan since 2008, when they played in the Asia Cup, because of the two countries’ tense political ties.

Sourav Ganguly, a former captain of India and head of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), stated that India ought to sever all cricket-related relations with Pakistan. ANI in Kolkata spoke with Ganguly. The only occasions that India and Pakistan have faced each other throughout the years have been at ICC-hosted Asia Cup events, the ICC Champions Trophy, and the T20 and 50 throughout World Cups. Ganguly stated in an interview with ANI that “this (severing ties with Pakistan) should be done 100 percent.” There must be strict action taken. The fact that similar incidents occur each year is no joke. Terrorism is unacceptable.

Since 2008, when they played in the Asia Cup, India has not visited Pakistan because of the tense political ties between the two countries. The latest bilateral series between the two bitter rivals took place in India in 2012–13 and consisted of white-ball matches.

In a hybrid format, India played all of their matches in Dubai at the recently held ICC Champions Trophy rather than traveling to Pakistan.

Additionally, the hybrid format has been chosen by Jay Shah, the head of the International Cricket Council (ICC), for all ICC events in the 2024–2027 cycle, which will take place in either India or Pakistan. The Central government announced a number of diplomatic measures in response to the heinous terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives. These included closing the Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Attari, suspending the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals, giving them 40 hours to return to their country, and lowering the number of officers in the High Commissions on both sides.

In the wake of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, Vice-President Rajeev Shukla of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reaffirmed that India will not play any bilateral cricket matches against Pakistan. Since Pakistan visited India for a limited-overs series in 2012–13, India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series. The last time India visited Pakistan was in 2008.The two sides only play each other in international tournaments, like as when Pakistan visits India for the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, India declined to go to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy, therefore all of their games—including the final and the match versus Pakistan—were played in Dubai.

“We condemn it and stand with the victims. We shall do whatever our government says. Due to the government’s stance, we don’t play in bilateral series with Pakistan. Furthermore, we shall no longer engage in bilateral relations with Pakistan. However, we participate in ICC events because of ICC engagement. “ICC knows what’s going on and will deal with it,” he told Sports Tak.
