I would be astonished if Pakistan and India didn’t knock on the door: Shane Watson on attaining WTC status

According to former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson, India and Pakistan both have a number of match-winners, therefore it would be remarkable if the two teams didn’t make it close to the World Test Championships finals.

The ongoing cycle’s championship game is scheduled for next year, but the competition for the top two slots in the league table is getting intense.

India, who finished as the tournament’s finalists last year, will host Australia for four of their remaining six World Cup games, with Bangladesh hosting the other two. On the other hand, Pakistan has the home field advantage in each of their final five games.

According to Watson on The ICC Review, “you can never ignore India and Pakistan because they’ve got so many match winners, outside of their home countries as well.”

If those two don’t knock on the door leading into the final, I’d be quite shocked.

The top two teams in the World Test Championships standings right now are South Africa and Australia, who are followed by Sri Lanka, India, and Pakistan.

When asked to pick the two finalists, Watson responded, “Right now, the way I see it, it’s going to be impossible for South Africa and Australia to not make it.”

Both of them are playing excellent cricket. With the exception of the last Test against Sri Lanka, where they were swept up in shifting circumstances in the final innings, Australia played solid cricket.
