Although both Kane Richardson and Tom Helm took three wickets, it was the former’s quick dismissals of Sam Billings and Jordan Cox that gave Birmingham Pheonix a decisive 10-run victory that moved them up to third place.
Sam and Tom Curran made a valiant effort to use some late, lusty strikes to keep the Oval Invincibles in the game. They had an excessive amount of work to do while pursuing 167, though. In contrast to Tom’s exciting 12-ball 30, Sam’s 20-ball 30 featured two fours and three sixes. The Invincibles were done in once Helm dispatched both in succeeding deliveries.
With 32, Cox kept the Invincibles in the game despite Jason Roy’s scratchy appearance. They got starts but failed to finish the innings because they couldn’t find a reliable batter to take the lead. Phoenix, in contrast, had consistent bowling strikes, with Richardson and Helm bowling well together to share six wickets. Helm recorded a stunning 3-11 while Richardson brought back 3-22.
