Due to his refusal to receive the Covid-19 vaccine, former world number one Novak Djokovic announced on Thursday that he would not be able to travel to New York to compete at the US Open, the year’s last Grand Slam, which starts next week.

Travelers must currently present documentation of a complete immunisation record in order to board flights to and enter the United States.

Sadly, I will not be able to attend the US Open this time in New York “Djokovic tweeted something. “I wish my fellow competitors luck! I’ll remain healthy and upbeat as I wait for another competition opportunity.

The Serbian earlier stated that he was ready to skip Grand Slam competitions if players must receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

The tournament in New York, which ran from August 29 to September 11, included Djokovic on the entrance list.

Because to his deportation from the nation due to his immunisation status, the 35-year-old was also unable to successfully defend his Australian Open title earlier this year.

Djokovic’s absence was deemed “unfortunate” by the United States Tennis Association (USTA), who expressed excitement for his return to Flushing Meadows in 2019.
