Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, maintains that he wants Cristiano Ronaldo to remain at Old Trafford despite benching the unresting player for a second straight Premier League game.
Ronaldo started on the bench as United defeated Southampton 1-0 on Saturday before coming on as a somewhat anonymous replacement.
Since the end of the previous season, the Portuguese striker has been lobbying for a transfer after United’s failure to make the Champions League this year.
However, despite recent speculations tying him to teams like his previous club Sporting Lisbon, Napoli, and Marseille, Ronaldo has been unable to land a deal with one of Europe’s elite clubs.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is still firmly committed to United and is not up for sale as the deadline for transfers approaches on Thursday.
