A number of sporting events were cancelled on Thursday as a result of the passing of Queen Elizabeth, including those in the sports of cycling, golf, rugby, and cricket. Some events also observed minutes of silence in her honour.

At age 96, the queen, who had ruled Britain for the longest time, passed away peacefully at her home in Scotland.

As a show of respect, the second day of the third and final cricket Test between England and South Africa at the Oval was postponed on Friday. Additionally, games for the domestic Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy were cancelled.

Two games that were set to take place on Friday were cancelled by the English Football League (EFL), while West Ham United supporters enthusiastically sang “God Save the Queen” on Thursday before their Europa Conference League match against FCSB of Romania. At Europa League matches involving British teams, a minute of silence was observed, and players wore black armbands.

The Scottish Professional Football League also decided to postpone Cove Rangers’ Scottish Championship match against Dundee on Friday.

The Premier League is reportedly also likely to decide on the weekend’s games on Friday, according to the British media.
