The 15-person roster for the next T20 World Cup should have included seasoned pacer Mohammed Shami, according to former India captain Kris Srikkanth on Monday, even if it meant leaving Harshal Patel out.
In Australia, the T20 championship will take place in October or November.
Jasprit Bumrah, a leader in pace, and Harshal, a specialist in death overs, were returned after regaining fitness, while the national selection committee did not include any surprises in the India squad.
“If I were the chairman of the selection committee, Shami is definitely in the team,” the former selection committee chairman declared.
“We are playing in Australia, the guy’s got the real action, the guy’s got bounce, he can withstand the situation, and he can get on early wickets, so I would have definitely gotten Shami instead of Harshal Patel,” said the coach.
