Georgina Rodriguez, the girlfriend of Cristiano Ronaldo, has criticised Fernando Santos, the coach of Portugal, for his decision to sideline the team captain for the match against Morocco in the quarterfinals.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s FIFA World Cup 2022 came to an unfortunate conclusion after Portugal’s 0-1 loss to Morocco in the quarterfinals. However, what has upset Ronaldo’s supporters the most is the fact that the Portugal captain didn’t even start for the squad in the final two World Cup games, thereby ending his career as an international football player. In response to the selection, Fernando Santos, the team’s head coach, has come under fire from Ronaldo’s partner Georgina Rodriguez.

Georgina posted on Instagram as follows: “That buddy, for whom you have so many kind words and admiration. He noticed how everything had altered, just like you did when you entered the game, but it was too late. The best player in the world, his most potent tool, cannot be undervalued. You also can’t defend someone who doesn’t deserve it. We learn lessons from life. Today, rather than losing, we gained knowledge. Cristiano, you are admired.”

When questioned about his choice to sit Ronaldo, Santos responded that he had no remorse because the same players had performed admirably against Switzerland in the most recent game, which his team had won 6-1.

No regrets, I don’t think so, the 68-year-old said after the game. “This team performed admirably against Switzerland. Great player Cristiano entered the game when we felt it was important. No, I don’t feel guilty.”

With the loss to Morocco, not only did Portugal’s FIFA World Cup campaign come to an end, but also perhaps Cristiano Ronaldo’s ambition of winning the largest football trophy in the world at the age of 37.
