In MI’s match against GT, Suryakumar Yadav scores his first IPL century, continuing his stellar streak.

Suryakumar Yadav, a batsman for the Mumbai Indians, scored his first IPL century against the Gujarat Titans, the reigning champions. Suryakumar recorded his highest score in the Indian Premier League with an undefeated 103.

In order to help MI score 218 for 5 in the first innings, Suryakumar hammered 103 runs off 49 balls while hitting 11 fours and 6 maximums.

Mumbai got off to a fast start, scoring 61 runs during the powerplay, thanks to MI skipper Rohit Sharma and left-handed opener Ishan Kishan. The game was turned on its head by GT spinner Rashid Khan, who dismissed both Rohit and Kishan in the same over, leaving MI stuck at 66 for 2.

The two quick wickets did not, however, slow down the hosts as Nehal Wadhera and Suryakumar maintained a strong scoring rate. After scoring 15 runs off seven deliveries, Wadhera had a strong start but Rashid dimissed him.

Suryakumar continued to score at a healthy clip before turning up the heat towards the end of his innings. Alzarri Joseph, a West Indian bowler who began his IPL career with MI back in 2019, was his opponent. In the 15th over, the MI hitter struck Joseph for a six and a four, then blasted Rashid for a four between deep backward square leg and deep midwicket to reach his fifty-first run.

In the 18th over, the top-ranked T20I batsman in the world smacked Mohit Sharma for three boundaries and a six. He persisted in his assault on Shami, slamming him for a six and a few boundaries in the last over to help MI pass the 200-run threshold.

Although Suryakumar had three hundreds in Twenty20 matches, this was his maiden IPL century. In the penultimate ball of the innings, the 32-year-old hit Joseph for a stunning six to reach his hundred.
