Saim Ayub, Pakistan’s young all-format opener, may miss the ICC Champions Trophy next month after being sidelined for six weeks.
After being sidelined for six weeks due to an ankle injury he acquired during the current second Test match against South Africa, Pakistan’s young all-format opener Saim Ayub may miss next month’s ICC Champions Trophy. He will no longer play in the Test match in Cape Town against the Proteas. MRIs and other tests were performed on him, and the doctors recommended that Saim take a six-week break, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced on Saturday.
On Friday, the first day of the second Test match against South Africa, Saim injured his ankle fielding on the boundary.
According to a board official, “it will take at least six weeks for his right ankle fracture injury to heal.”
As part of his recovery, Saim has been wearing an Ankle Medical Moon Boot on his fractured ankle.
He will therefore undoubtedly miss the two-Test series against the West Indies at home later this month as well as the February tri-series with South Africa and New Zealand prior to the Champions Trophy, which begins on February 19 in Pakistan and Dubai.Fakhar Zaman for the ODIs and Imam-ul-Haq, the dismissed opener, might take Saim’s place.
The 22-year-old left-hander struck three hundreds during his victorious tours of Australia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, including two during the ODI series’ 3-0 thumping of South Africa.
