A fan broke through the security checkpoint and entered the stadium to greet MS Dhoni, who was pretending to flee from him.
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK)’s IPL 2024 playoff ambitions were dashed on Friday after losing to the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Chasing a target of 232, CSK were reduced to 196/8 in 20 overs, despite half-centuries from Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali. MS Dhoni, the former captain, stepped out to bat at number eight and provided much-needed excitement for the audience, hitting an unbeaten 26 off 11 balls. Just like any other away game this season, there were more CSK fans in Ahmedabad cheering for Dhoni than the host team.
Even while Dhoni was feigning flight from him, a fan managed to get past the security checkpoint and onto the field to welcome him.
To touch his feat, the fan had to bow down to the former, but Dhoni gave the fan his space.
On social media, a video of Dhoni and one of his numerous fans enjoying this happy moment went viral.
This season, Dhoni has batted at number nine against the Punjab Kings at Dharamsala in addition to typically playing lower on the order.
To maintain their chances of making the playoffs, CSK must defeat the Rajasthan Royals on Sunday.
With seven victories, six losses, and a total of 14 points, they are ranked third in the points table.
