Virat Kohli, Axar Patel, and Rishabh Pant, who won the T20 World Cup 2024, did not make Chopra’s best XI.

Aakash Chopra, a former Indian cricketer turned commentator, does not shy away from expressing strong opinions on his YouTube channel. Chopra has chosen the Team of the Tournament for the 2024 T20 World Cup, leaving out finalist Virat Kohli, Axar Patel, and Rishabh Pant from his XI. Despite this, Chopra’s greatest team included five Indian players. He also left out Travis Head, the world’s top T20I hitter, and another Australian talent Pat Cummins from his squad.

Chopra chose Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Rohit Sharma as the opening duo. Gurbaz scored the most runs in the 2024 T20 World Cup, totaling 281 in eight innings. Both batsmen also scored three half-centuries in the competition, which tied for the most. Chopra further stated that Rohit will be his captain.

“There is no better captain than Rohit Sharma in the entire world at the moment,” he remarked.

He ranked Nicholas Pooran third, Suryakumar Yadav fourth, and Heinrich Klaasen fifth.

“Rishabh Pant scored runs at the start, but after that he went cold,” Chopra explained why the Indian wicket-keeper batsman was left out.

Chopra selected Hardik Pandya as the only batting all-rounder in his squad, leaving out Marcus Stoinis, who had scored 169 runs in five innings and taken 10 wickets in the competition. In contrast, Pandya scored 144 runs in six innings while taking one more wicket.

“Hardik Pandya has been the greatest all-rounder in this World Cup. “No one came close to him,” claimed Chopra, who played for Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals from 2008 to 2011.

Rashid Khan was an easy choice, but Chopra passed up Indian spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel in favour of Bangladesh’s Rishad Hossain, who took 14 wickets in the 2024 T20 World Cup.Finally, Chopra selected the tournament’s three leading wicket-takers: Fazalhaq Farooqi, Arshdeep Singh, and ‘Player of the Tournament’ Jasprit Bumrah to complete his Team of the Tournament.
