Ab de Villiers, a legendary player from South Africa, expects that the BCCI would soon permit Indian players to compete in the SA20 since it will help to promote the fledgling franchise-based tournament.
South African star Ab de Villiers expects the BCCI to enable Indian players to compete in the SA20 in the near future, since it will only help the new franchise-based league’s profile. Dinesh Karthik will become the first Indian cricketer to compete in the SA20, but only after announcing his international and domestic retirement last year. The BCCI does not let active players to participate in abroad leagues, hence the only opportunity to play events outside India is to end your career at home. Having said that, there is an increasing tendency of Indian cricketers retiring to compete in burgeoning abroad events.
“I hope more Indian athletes participate. It’s wonderful for the competition that we know Dinesh Karthik would be attending this year.
In an interview with a limited group of reporters, de Villiers stated, “And hopefully the BCCI will allow us to get more Indian players in the future to come and join the fun of the SA20,” prior to the start of the third series on January 9.
Nevertheless, he is well aware that the BCCI would not soon release active Indian players for use in foreign tournaments.According to De Villiers, a league can only stay ahead of its competitors by luring the top international players, as the IPL has done for many years.
The SA20 can simply continue to expand in terms of international players. That has contributed significantly to the IPL’s success throughout the years, and I’ve been an IPL fan since 2008. The overseas contingents appear to be becoming stronger each year.
“Great cricket is created when you combine the top players in India and the world. “So, I think that Graeme Smith and his team should just keep working as hard as they can in order to acquire the best talent from abroad,” de Villiers continued.
