A report published in the Economic Times states that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has brought in an excess of Rs 5120 crore for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The report went on to say that it represented a 116% increase from the surplus of Rs 2367 crore that the BCCI received from the 2022 IPL. As per the report, the BCCI’s overall revenue from the 2023 Indian Premier League was Rs 11,769 crore, indicating a 78% rise in revenue from the previous year. According to BCCI’s annual report for 2022–2023 the expenditure also climbed by 66% to Rs 6648 crore. The report cited new media rights and sponsorship agreements as the cause of the expansion. For the 2023–2027 cycle, the new media rights agreement is valued at Rs 48,390 crore. The 2023 IPL was the first of it.

Disney Star acquired the IPL TV rights in 2021 for a sum of Rs 23,575 crore (for the years 2023–27). Jio Cinema purchased the digital rights at a sum of Rs 23,758 crore. Tata Sons purchased the IPL title rights for a sum of Rs. 2,500 crore.

As for the Indian squad, a BCCI source informed ANI that they would like to request that the International Cricket Council hold their matches in Sri Lanka or Dubai instead of sending them to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. The ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place in Pakistan in February and March of 2025. Due to strained relations between the two countries, India has not participated in any cricket competitions in Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup. The two countries’ final bilateral series took place in India from December 2012 to January 2013. Since then, the only times the two countries have faced off are during the Asia Cup and ICC competitions.

India’s participation in the next tournament has been clouded by uncertainty because of the two nations’ ties.

India’s cricket board had suggested to Pakistan that all of their matches be held in one city. According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, Lahore has been selected as the venue for all of India’s matches. But the idea of visiting Pakistan does not appeal to the Indian board.

Speaking to ANI on India’s involvement in the BCCI, the insider stated, “India will not be visiting Pakistan for the Champions Trophy in 2025. Will instruct ICC to host its matches in either Sri Lanka or Dubai.”
