IPL has seen tremendous financial growth over the past year as a whole.
Kolkata Knight Riders, owned by Shah Rukh Khan, had a tremendous amount of success in the IPL 2024, earning their third championship. In the last year, the IPL as a whole has experienced tremendous financial growth. In its most recent analysis, the international investment firm Houlihan Lokey stated that during the previous year, the Indian Premier League’s brand value increased by 6.3% and its business value increased by 6.5%. Surprisingly, the highly-regarded Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are not the most valuable team, according to the survey that also highlighted the brand worth of the IPL franchises.
“Houlihan Lokey, Inc. (NYSE:HLI), the global investment bank, today issued the 2024 IPL Brand Valuation Study, its comprehensive report into the business enterprise and brand values of the Indian Premier League (IPL),” according to a news release issued by the bank.
“According to the research, the valuation of IPL as a business has risen to US$16.4 billion, up 6.5% (INR 135,000 crores), showing the league’s ongoing success and global appeal. Over the last year, the IPL’s stand-alone brand value climbed by 6.3% to US$3.4 billion (INR 28,000 crores).
“The Tata Group has won the IPL’s title sponsorship for another five years, from 2024 to 2028, for about US$300 million (INR 2,500 crores), which is approximately 50% higher than the previous arrangement of INR 335 crores per season. This, together with last year’s media rights auction, cements the IPL’s position as a critical platform for prestigious brands looking to increase their worth.”
According to the report, the Chennai Super Kings are the most valuable IPL franchise.
“Despite failing to make the playoffs in 2024, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) remain the most valuable franchisee, with a brand worth of US$231.0 million, up 9% from the previous year. Kolkata Knight Riders, the IPL 2024 victors, recorded the most increase, up 19.30% from 2023, according to the report.
Five time champions The Mumbai Indians do not even rank among the top three in terms of brand value, according to the research.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is ranked second in brand and company value, with a stunning brand worth of US$227.0 million. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), winners of the TATA IPL 2024, have surpassed the Mumbai Indians to take third place in brand value, with US$216.0 million.
“The Mumbai Indians (MI), another extremely successful and popular franchise, comes in fourth place on the chart with a brand worth of US$204.0 million. MI has established its place as one of the most changing franchisees in IPL history with the return of legacy player and new captain Hardik Pandya, paving the way for player transactions, according to the article.
