Chetan Sharma’s sting operation video has gone viral on social media, raising several questions.
Chetan Sharma, the chairman of selectors for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), was the subject of a major scandal on Tuesday (February 14), following allegations that he revealed secret selection procedures during a sting operation.
Sharma, who has been recently re-elected as BCCI chair after being removed following India’s performance at the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022, has seen during the sting operation casting doubt on former India captain Virat Kohli and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah.
Sharma is also said to have revealed private conversations with head coach Rahul Dravid and Kohli during the Zee News sting operation. The BCCI is reportedly investigating national selectors because their contracts forbid them from speaking to the media. According to reports, BCCI secretary Jay Shah will make a decision on Chetan Sharma’s future soon.
“It will be (BCCI secretary) Jay’s (Shah) call as to what will be Chetan’s future. “The question is whether T20 captain Hardik Pandya or ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma would want to sit in a selection meeting with Chetan knowing that he has let out internal discussions,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by Zee.
Despite being 80% to 85% fit to play, Sharma claims that several players use injections to hasten their return to competitive cricket. The former India fast bowler also claimed that he and team management disagreed on whether Bumrah should play in the T20I series against Australia before the T20 World Cup in September 2022, after recovering from a stress fracture.
Bumrah is currently out and will miss the remainder of the four-match Border-Gavaskar series as well as the subsequent three-match ODI series. Chetan Sharma also claimed that former India captain Kohli and former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had an ego clash.
