According to reports, Jodhpur will likely host a few IPL 2023 matches, and the BCCI will send a Recce team to assess the situation.

In the upcoming tournament, each team is expected to host at least nine home games.

Barkatullah Khan Stadium in Jodhpur may be approved to host their first Indian Premier League game in the upcoming season. The tournament will be held on a pan-India basis for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) hopes to capitalise on this by spreading the game throughout the state.

The RCA’s top officials have verbally communicated to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) their desire to host a few matches in the city, and a decision will be made soon. The Roger Binny-led organisation will send a team to assess the site and the facility, and if it is found to be worthy, it will be approved.

“It’s a verbal request. We’ve been told that RCA has revitalised the stadium and has asked if we can consider Jodhpur as a new venue for a few IPL games. “The board will make a decision only after the recce team submits its report,” a BCCI source was quoted in the report.

According to the report, the BCCI is also concerned about the stadium’s boundary size. Some believe it is not up to the required standard and may play a role in Jodhpur losing the opportunity to host.

However, the stadium recently hosted a few First-Class games, so RCA is upbeat about the situation overall. The ground also hosted a few Legends League Cricket (LLC) matches in 2022, which were a huge success based on the number of people who showed up on match days. The venue has a capacity of 30,000 people, so there’s a good chance that the IPL’s governing council will eventually approve Jodhpur.
