The first-ever Khelo India Para Games medal distribution ceremony for the powerlifters took place on Thursday at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, where former Indian cricket sensation and member of parliament Harbhajan Singh was a guest of honor. The World Cup-winning spin legend lauded the perseverance and good sportsmanship shown by para-athletes from all over the country. Aiming to foster inclusivity and give athletes with disabilities a stage on which to display their extraordinary abilities, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India launched the Khelo India Para Games, an initiative that has received tremendous support and appreciation from a wide range of artistic disciplines.
Harbhajan Singh praised the Khelo India movement for providing a platform for individuals to express themselves freely on all fronts.
Harbhajan Singh joined the A-list attendees at the esteemed event this week, and his presence inspired the attendees and gave the occasion a glamorous touch. After spending some time with the para athletes, Harbhajan expressed his happiness to be a part of the event.
“It was an amazing honor to be a part of the medal presentation for the para competitors. I am appreciative of this chance provided by Khelo India and the Sports Authority of India (SAI). “These athletes exhibit unparalleled talent, leaving a lasting impression on my heart,” said the spin legend.
Para athletes possess an unbounded potential in each person, as their spirit exceeds that of able-bodied athletes. Their strength often surpasses others, even in the face of struggles. Something remarkable and divinely complete about their talents rests in their uniqueness. They are a source of inspiration and pride for our country, and I applaud their bravery and tenacity,” he continued.
In addition, the well-known Bhajji praised the athletes’ feats throughout the ceremony, praising their remarkable on-field successes as well as their tenacity. The athletes were inspired by his words of encouragement to keep pushing the envelope and aiming higher in their athletic pursuits.
Along with sending his best wishes to all para athletes, the former spinner for the Indian cricket team also urged them to follow their passions and aspirations with unshakable determination.
