The Indian cricket team management revealed the lineup for the three-ODI series against Australia on Monday.

The roster for the three-ODI series against Australia was unveiled by the management of the Indian cricket team on Monday. The match is being considered a “dress rehearsal” for the World Cup. The first two games were skipped by senior players including captain Rohit Sharma, veteran batter Virat Kohli, all-arounder Hardik Pandya, and in-form spinner Kuldeep Yadav, allowing them a chance to mentally prepare for the major event. Before the third and final ODI before the World Cup, which starts on October 5, Rohit will return to captain a full-strength team. KL Rahul will captain the team for the first two games against Australia.

Along with Ravichandran Ashwin and Washington Sundar, the team for the third game is essentially the World Cup’s initial 15-man roster.

The Indian cricket squad, meanwhile, arrived home early on Monday morning from the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, drove a Mercedes back to his house and even posed for photos with police officers’ supporters.

If Axar is unable to become fit before the September 28 deadline set by the International Cricket Council, Ashwin, who last participated in an ODI in January 2022 in South Africa, may be added to the World Cup roster at the last minute.

A quadriceps rupture that occurred at the last Asia Cup in Sri Lanka prevented Axar from competing in the Sunday championship match versus Sri Lanka.

Ajit Agarkar, the chief selection, stated that if Axar doesn’t recover in time, Ashwin and Washington will compete for the replacement spot.

In any case, there are two guys: Washington and him. Agarkar addressed the media in a virtual session, saying, “Look, basically, what is being made known to us about Axar’s ailment is that he should be okay and call we will make it once we know that but it leaves us with option to check these guys if they need to go that way.

We will consider that option if the need arises, but at this time, I don’t believe there is any reason to speculate because we are hopeful that Axar is healthy, he continued.

Questions about the non-selection of an off-spinner were raised when the 15-man World Cup squad was chosen earlier this month at home by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel, given that some of the opposition’s top order contained several left-handers.

The Asia Cup squad was announced on Monday, and following the announcement, captain Rohit was questioned about Ashwin’s absence. In response, the India captain said that if necessary, a proven performer like Ashwin could be added to the lineup right away.
