Hardik Pandya’s 34 from 21 balls was the factor that raised MI’s total. However, after Yuzvendra Chahal sent him back, things became worse.
After losing three straight games in the IPL 2024, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya challenged his side to exhibit a little bit more “discipline” and “courage” to turn things around on Monday. MI was asked to bat and was left reeling at 20 for 4 in the fourth over. They were unable to recover from this terrible start and finished with a total of just 125 for nine in the 20 overs that were permitted. With 27 balls remaining in response, Rajasthan Royals defeated the goal by six wickets. After the game, Hardik told the announcers, “Tough night tonight, we didn’t start the way we wanted to.”
“Outcomes are something that occurs sometimes and don’t always. Not much shocks me anymore, I believe. We just need to be more courageous and disciplined as a group if we want to accomplish a lot more great things in the future.”
MI’s total was raised by Hardik’s 21-ball 34. However, after Yuzvendra Chahal sent him back, things became worse.
“I think we were in a decent position to give us a chance to get to 150 or 160 but my wicket allowed them to get back more into the game, I needed to do a lot more,” he explained.
With Trent Boult (3/22) and Chahal (3/11) laying the groundwork for RR’s victory, the bowlers had a successful day at work.
“Having something for the bowlers is a wonderful idea as well. The bowlers have it rough in this game. That was unexpected, though. It all comes down to acting morally,” Hardik stated.
The outcome of the match was largely determined by the toss, according to RR captain Sanju Samson.
“I believe the throw was the pivotal moment. It was all about the toss. “I thought it was excessively sticky at first, and we experienced Trent Boult and Nandre Burger’s speed,” Samson remarked.
“We expected Boulle to do well because he has a long history of playing international cricket. It was amazing, but I didn’t anticipate to be four or five wickets down.
“Everyone fulfills their roles and moves on. Someone like R Ashwin didn’t go for wickets; instead, he kept it tight because he knew we had a strong powerplay. Therefore, collaboration is key.” In the seventh over, with RR needing to score 126 runs to win, they were down to 48 for three, but Riyan Parag struck for his second consecutive fifty of the year with a 39-ball 54 not out, sending the team home.
In reality, rather than attempting to do a lot of things, I’ve streamlined everything. In the past, I would experiment a lot when I wasn’t getting runs. This year, all that matters is striking the ball and seeing it, according to Parag.
“These are the precise kinds of circumstances I bat in when I play domestically. This is what I do in domestic cricket, I thought to myself after Jos (Jos Buttler) and Ash (R Ashwin) bhai were out. That’s what I determined, then.
Regarding the distinction between IPL cricket and domestic cricket, Parag stated: “I haven’t played a single game for the past three to four years. When you know you can succeed and the results are not showing up, you actually return to the hotel room and consider going back to the drawing room.
“I realised I wasn’t practicing at this kind of level so I went and did that.” Boult was named Player of the Match after taking three wickets in the powerplay, two of which came in the opening over against Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir.
“It’s never a guarantee in this format, but it was good to get those wickets. We applied early pressure, it was wonderful to pick up some wickets, and we were pleased with the outcome,” he remarked.
Boult also called South Africa’s Nandre Burger a “great find”.
“He bowls with remarkable skill and wears his heart on his sleeve. Sandeep definitely missed out, but he will play a significant role in the season. I am excited to be a part of this bowling attack.”
